Dealbreaker #1: You don’t like movies/TV.

in fact, this is not even a dealbreaker. if you don’t like movies/TV, we will start talking, and we will instantly not get along. we could be talking about the weather, and i will just know you and i won’t get along.

I’m going to freak out whenever people use the word “retarded” instead of actually doing anything meaningful on behalf of the handicapped community.

Average Tumblr user (via bethandbee)

speaking up IS doing something meaningful. there are a lot of ways to be an activist, but what matters most is that if you don’t say it’s wrong, that says it’s right.

on another note, this type of ‘argument’ is a classic derail, and a classic way to shame those who stand up against a harmful status quo.

always speak up, and fuck the haters.

AlsoIt’sFromJezebelSooo. And I love Julie Klausner most of the time. I detest this Baby Woman dimwitted, Etsy necklace, pixie stix, bangs, kittens, Dr. Pepper lipgloss carefree white girl movement furiously and probably more than anyone, but there’s just an insane amount of policing I’m not comfortable with and the fact that this article wants me to adhere to x womanly standards instead of y womanly standards instead of telling me to give that shit up altogether is a joke.

I fucking hate Zooey Deschanel but she’s within her rights to be an airheaded, banged, wide eyed kitten loving twit and goddamn it, if she wants to be an airheaded, banged, wide eyed kitten loving twit, it’s her prerogative. I’m also within my rights to ignore her twee ass existence.

EVERY time I see a feminist critique on that fucking website and other websites (like tumblr or something) about famous women that I DON’T EVEN FUCKING LIKE it’s shit like this. Can they not be anything enough for you? And shut up not everyone goes towards getting men the same way what the fuck even is this article. Holy shit.

um what the fuck is this. This is so ridiculous I can’t even… plus is it bad to not be hiding your interests from guys?

WELL, APPARENTLY YOUR INTERESTS AREN’T FEMINIST ENOUGH SO THERE, GO BE JULIE KLAUSNER INSTEAD.
I don’t know; Sailor Moon doesn’t encompass every facet of my personality and doesn’t make me less equipped for the real world. I still kick-ass and take names and boys are still afraid of me.

I wonder what Jezebel would say about lolita! It’s been said a million times that the whole “infantilization” of lolita is like OMG SO GROSS!!!! but people don’t see the context of it, like how a strong kickass woman usually equals someone who LOOKS mature and ballbreaking while lolita breaks that whole stereotype and shows that y’know, fuck you I can enjoy this shit, still kickass, and not give a flying fuck what you think, etcetcetc…

LOL THEY ALREADY GOT TO IT.

Of course, one could argue that the subtext here is that by wearing girlish clothes, these young women are telegraphing the weakness or helplessness of a child. Is it the equivalent of wearing a sign that says, “Please take care of me?” On the other hand, fashion should be fun…

Here’s the question: Is it only about the clothes (see: Betsey Johnson’s spring 2009 collection)? Or is it a form of rebellion for a grown woman to dress like a little girl? And: By embracing Doll’s House-style, are Lolitas a setback for women who want to be taken seriously?

i need this on my tumblr forever.

people need to stop trying to define my experience as a woman. and every woman’s experience as a woman.

also, can we talk about how Klausner’s article is essentially just a list of things she personally doesn’t like? ETSY IS A WEBSITE WITH MANY, MANY VARIED PRODUCTS ON IT. but you clearly do not know that, JK, because you probably avoid it solely on some sort of bs principle.

lastly, but not leastly, i hate you, Jezebel. i hate you so much.

oh, no, wait, one more thing: i feel like this is the kind of article my mother would write. guess what? culture changes. just because bunnies & kitties were ‘immature’ in your day, Klausner, it doesn’t mean they are now.

i know exactly where this is. i shot a movie here.

raperevenge:

A Spanish mother has taken revenge on the man who raped her 13-year-old daughter at knifepoint by dousing him in petrol and setting him alight. He died of his injuries in hospital on Friday.

Antonio Cosme Velasco Soriano, 69, had been sent to jail for nine years in 1998, but was let out on a three-day pass and returned to his home town of Benejúzar, 30 miles south of Alicante, on the Costa Blanca.

While there, he passed his victim’s mother in the street and allegedly taunted her about the attack. He is said to have called out “How’s your daughter?”, before heading into a crowded bar.

Shortly after, the woman walked into the bar, poured a bottle of petrol over Soriano and lit a match. She watched as the flames engulfed him, before walking out…

If I were a prosecutor I would have to look the other way on this one.

Erykah Badu is basically my childhood. My mother used to listen to her albums all the time and her songs were always on our local R&B/Hip-Hop radio station. She is one of the few people I admit to calling my idol and role model. She’s so creative and smart and real. Erykah Badu has been one of the people I’ve remained interested in since I was kid looking at pictures of her in magazines and her videos on BET and MTV. God, I was so entranced by her when I first saw Bag Lady and On & On. I thought she was one of the most beautiful women I’d ever seen. It was not just her beauty that enraptured me, but also her soulful voice and the lyrics that she spouted from her beautiful lips. At the time, I had no idea what she was singing about, I just loved her voice, but as I matured I began to understand that her songs were not just pretty but were emotional, philosophical, political, and personal. Her music is a combination of soul, r&b, jazz, old school hip-hop, and blues.
It’s amazing that she’s been in the music game so long and has gone through so much shit and has still remained humble and real and hasn’t compromised her music and her artistic flow.
These two paragraphs probably don’t do her any justice, but I tried.
